Ellen Hannah (Fischer) Schroeder (1887-1959)

Ellen Hannah Fischer Schroeder was born Feb. 4, 1887 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Fischer and Ellen nee' Bergmann. She was baptized on Nov. 13, 1887, by Pastor J.P. Guenther, and she attended the Trinity Lutheran School and was confirmed on March 23, 1902, also by Pastor Guenther.

One June 5, 1907, she was married to Fred William Schroeder at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Otto L. Erbe conducting the service. Five children were born to this union, three sons and two daughters. After the death of her husband on April 12, 1946, she continued to make her home in Boone, visiting from time to time in the homes of her children.

A lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran congregation, she was in the Ladies' Aid and served as first cook for the parish hot lunch program, continuing this service for six years.

Her death occurred on Thursday morning, April 16, 1959 at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 12 days, while she was visiting at the home of her daughter, Edna, near Adair.

She is survived by her three sons, Emil (Bob) Schroeder of Jacksonville, Illinois, Marvin Herman Schroeder of Renton, Wash., and Marcus of Boone; two daughters, Edna, Mrs. Harold Wesack of Adair, and Lenora, Mrs. Donald Hasstedt of Boone; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Gerken and Mrs. Charles Fitch, both of Boone; one brother Clarence Fischer, of Boone; as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday afternoon, April 18. Pallbearers were Clarence Murken, Walter Eckstein, Clarence Forester, Joel Carswell, Leonard Vogler and Earl Baker. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Reuben Hauge, Mrs. Louis Hove and Mrs. Fred Ehman. Interment took place at Linwood Park Cemetery.
