Herman Michael Ahrens was born July 5, 1888 in Boone County, Iowa to John George and Lilly (Toepfer) Ahrens. He died Sunday, August 12, 1973 at the Riverview Manor Home in Des Moines.

Ahrens was a resident of Ames for 39 years and was a stationary fireman at the Municipal Light Plant in Ames until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny and the Modern Woodmen of America.

He was survived by his wife, Mabel; two daugthers, Mrs. Truman (Helen) Johnson of Ankeny and Mrs. Orville (Elnora) Nagel of Lacona; one son, Milo of Cashmere, Wash.; two brothers, William of Phoenix, Ariz., and Elmer of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 1:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny, with burial at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
