Herman P. Meyer (1857-1925)

Herman P. Meyer of south of Stanhope, Iowa, passed away at the hospital at Webster City, following a serious operation, after suffering three days from acute obstruction of the intestines, following an attack of intestinal flu. He was taken to the hospital Monday evening and departed from this life Tuesday, March 31st, at 7:30.

Herman P. Meyer was born November 28, 1857, in Allamakee County, Iowa. At the age of eight years he moved with his parents to Cook County, Illinois, where they resided until he was 18 years of age, when they moved to Boone County, and located along the Squaw Creek, south of town.

Here he met Marie Mitchell, of Boone County, and in October 1883, they were united in marriage and founded their home. To this union were born six children, all of whom are living. They are Mrs. E.O. Jorstad of Marshall, Minn., Mrs. Harley Hadaway, Mr. Joe Meyer, Mr. Emmet Meyer, Mr. Eugene Meyer, all of Stanhope, and Mrs. Theodore Grabau, of Boone. There are nine living grandchildren, one having preceded him in death. Besides these relatives there are living, one brother, Fred Meyer of Stanhope, and a sister, Mrs. Henry Ahrens of Story City.

The deceased was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Church of Mackey, and he had taken active part in church and civic life. He attended the public school in Illinois. He was a director of the Farmers Elevator Association of Stanhope for a number of years, being on of its charter members.

One who was a good father and loving husband will be greatly missed in the home circle.

The funeral services were held Saturday, April 4, at the house at 1:00, and from the church at 2:00, conducted by Rev. Schliepsleck.

The pallbearers were John McGlynn, Ole Brekke, Julius Krumm, George Mitchell, John Mitchell and Fred Kokemiller. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
