Edith Florence Long, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa. In agreement with Edith's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service honoring Edith's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, at Iles Funeral Homes, Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid, where the family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service time on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid.

Edith was born on October 29, 1918 in Madrid, Iowa to Carl and Esther (Eriksson) Swanson. She graduated from Madrid High School. Edith was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid. She joined the Luther Methodist Church, where Edith served as president of the WSCS and later was a member of First Methodist in Boone. She served as an assistant 4-H leader. Edith utilized her artistic talent in sewing many quilts, Hardanger embroidery, and oil painting. She was a member of the Boone Brush and Palette.

Edith married Paul Ira Long on June 8, 1938, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid, Iowa. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in June, 2008, with a family gathering. Edith and Paul retired from farming and moved to Boone, Iowa in 1996. They enjoyed their cabin in Minnesota; snowbirding in Mesa, Arizona; and travels to Sweden to see her parent's homesteads, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Arlen (Steve) Poock of Muscatine, Iowa and Carl (Laurie) Long of Madrid; three grandchildren, Melanie (Tom) Morgan of Austin, Texas, Brandon Poock of Muscatine and Erik (Sarah) Long of Madrid; two step grandchildren, Neil Warren of Madrid and Matt (Kate) Warren of Bloomington, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace and Benjamin Paul Morgan; and two step great-grandchildren, Kylie Warren and Jackson Warren. Edith was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Paul Long on February 28, 2009.

The family has respectfully requested that memorials be made to the Boone County Home Care Services - Lifeline.
