L.H. Doran, 65, Boone Attorney Dies Saturday

Lant H. Doran, 65, prominent Boone attorney, died about 5 o'clock this Saturday morning, Jan. 10, following brain surgery at the Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines on Dec. 29.

Mr. Doran suffered a stroke in mid October and failed to recover from its effects which necessitated the surgery.

Born in Beaver area Mr. Doran graduated from the Drake University law school and opened practice in Boone in 1920. He was the senior member of the law firm of Doran, Doran, Doran, Erbe and Doran.

He served in the Iowa Senate from 1929 to 1931 and from 1937 to 1939. During that time he chairmaned the appropriations committee and the interim committee. He authored the Iowa drivers license law and the school bus stop law which requires vehicles to stop when meeting or approaching a school bus which has stopped.

Mr. Doran was a veteran of World War I and had served Arthur D. Lantz Post of the American Legion as its commander. He was a long time member of the Boone Lions club and a past president, belonged to several of the Masonic bodies, the Boone Elks lodge, Episcopal church and was a member of the Boone county, Iowa State and Amercian Bar associations. He always took an active interest in Republican politics through the years.

Survivors include his wife DeElda of the family home at 509 South Story street; one daughter Mrs. Norman A. Erbe of Boone; two sons, Dr. John Doran, Ames and Wiliam K. Doran, Boone, associated with his father in the law firm; three brothers Alex, Boone; Lucien, mayor of Perry and O. E. (Bob) Doran, Beaver; three sisters Mrs. Perry Rinker, Ogden and Mrs. Glenn Campbell and Miss Charlotte Doran, bothe of Boone and eight grandchildren.

The Welin Chapel has charge of the services.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 2 o'clock from the First Methodist church with burial in Linwood Park cemetery. Fr. Thomas Hulme will be in charge. For visiting hours, friends are asked to call the Welin Chapel.

This obituary was found at the Ericson Public Library in Boone. The library has several 3-ring binders filled with pages of multiple obituaries photocopied onto one page. The volume that this particular obit was found in is unknown, but the page # is 236. The date "Jan 12, 1959" is written in at the end of the obit. This is most likely the issue date of the newspaper the obit originally appeared in.
