SHADLE, ROGAN, WISECUP

John Galen Shadle passed away on May 14 at a St. Louis, Missouri nursing home. John was born in Beaver, Iowa, on January 24, 1920. he was raised in Boone by his mother, Mary (Pritchard) Rogan and his step father, Gora Rogan. John attended the Boone Community School system and attended Iowa State University. His collegiate goals were delayed by WWII. He joined the Army in 1942. He served as an officer in the Pacific campaigns, including the Philippines, during the war. John also served with the occupying forces in Japan after the Japanese surrendered. Upon completion of his service, John returned to Boone and married Erma Wisecup on July 8, 1946.
John received his B.S. in Education and M.S. in Education in 1947 and 1948, respectively, from Drake University. He started his teaching career in Harlan, Iowa, and then taught chemistry at Boone High School and Boone Junior College. John and Erma moved to St. Louis in 1956 where they both taught in the St. Louis School system. John taught chemistry at Riverview Gardens High School and was Principal for his last 13 years before his retirement in 1982. John had also been a Mason since 1947. He had joined the Masonic organization at the Boone Masonic Lodge.
John was predeceased by his wife, Erma, in October 2007. He is survived by three nephews: Duane Wisecup, of Ames; Ron Wisecup, of Laguna Beach, California and Chris Wisecup, of Luther.
A memorial service will be held and his urn will be interred at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis on June 2 at 11:00 a.m. Boone News Republican
