Mary L. Knight, age 69 of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at the Boone County Hospital in Boone.
Mary was born on May 24, 1939 in Dayton, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence Ulysses and Catherine Ellen (Ball) Dutcher. She graduated from Dayton High School in Dayton. Mary has lived all her life in Boone County, Iowa.
Mary was married to Jerry Zeph Knight on May 22, 1959 at the Central Christian Church in Boone. She worked at Osh Kosh Tanning for 23 years, then at CDS of Boone for 5 years, and retired at the age of 62.
Mary was a member of the Central Christian Church of Boone. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, doing cross word puzzles, crafts, playing the slot machines at Meskwaki. She also enjoyed going to the stock car races in Boone, watching her son and grandsons race and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry and her daughter, Rita.
Mary is survived by her son, Jeff Knight and companion Jamie Rogers of Boone; her daughter, Carla Gifford (Rick) of Pilot Mound; her five grandchildren, Wayne Gifford (Samantha) of Boone; Jerry Gifford (Danielle Walters) of Boone; Tina Knight of Ames; Jeffrey Stonehocker (Megan) of Ames; Jessica Knight of Worthington, Minnesota; her six great grandchildren, Zackary Gifford, Emily Gifford and Braden Gifford all of Boone; Cyrus Knight, Isiah Knight of Ames and Alea Knight of Worthington, Minnesota; her five sisters, her brother and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Central Christian Church at 8th & Greene Streets in Boone. Rev. Paul Fraser will officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service.
Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery, near Ridgeport, Iowa at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
