Patti Evans was born Irene Patricia O'Grady June 23, 1929 at Long Beach, California to Daniel Joseph and Irene Carrie (Chapin) O'Grady. She passed away at her residence Monday afternoon, April 20, 2009 at the age of 79.
Patti grew up in California attending Franklin High School in Los Angeles. She enjoyed and very much participated in life. While in California she began her family and raised her children there. But working on the road led to many different areas of the country and all the while Patti enjoyed the people whom she met. She and her husband, Gail Evans, settled in Iowa after they had sold Iowa vintage and antique furniture in California and had gone back and forth with the trade. She had driven and worked at Mayflower Moving Company and other trucking companies along the way. Patti worked for twenty years in the trucking industry; she had her own company, The Drayman, which unloaded railroad cars onto trucks for local hauling then she was a dispatcher in Ft. Dodge for Royster Trucking.
Patti was a history buff and enjoyed to read and keep busy. She took time out for bird watching and some people watching during the Glenn Miller Festival which she started attending prior to her move to Clarinda 4 years ago. Patti is the current First Vice President and was to assume the Lions Club presidency in June.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Danny Anderson, twin brother Melvin O'Grady and son, Steve Harlock.
Patti is survived by children: Charles Ashe and wife Linda of Fullerton, California, Colleen Williamson of Victorville, California, Susan Anderson and husband Mark and their daughter Beth of Clarinda, Iowa, and Jim Harlock of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Memorial services were held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel, Clarinda, with Rev. Dan Weibeseik officiating. Memorials are suggested to The Heifer Project. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel is providing arrangements. Boone News Republican
