Charles R. Cross, 62, of 1133 Country Club Drive in Boone, passed away at his home on Monday morning, March 30, 2009 from complications of multiple myeloma.
Chuck was born in Jefferson, Iowa on April 25, 1946, the third son of Dr. Donald and Mildred A. (Patterson) Cross.
He lived his life in Boone, Des Moines, Iowa City and Mason City. Chuck graduated from Boone High School in 1964, where he participated in the band and on the swim team, attended Cornell College and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1968.
He married Susan Van Duyn in 1968. In 1998, he married Constance Mondt.
Chuck worked as a CPA and bank executive. He enjoyed golf and riding his bike. Chuck rode RAGBRAI eight years and participated in rides in New York City and Rosarito to Ensenada, Mexico. He was an eager traveler and saw much of the U.S., Canada and Europe in his lifetime. Chuck was a loyal Hawkeye fan. For a number of years, he was an avid coach and coordinator for the youth soccer program in the Des Moines area.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Iowa Society of Certified aPublic Accountants.
His parents, Dr. Donald L. and Mildred Cross, and step-mother, Louise Cross preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Connie of Boone; a daughter Heather and Jay Agnew and grandchildren Trevor and Meghan all of Marion, Iowa; a son Matthew and Mandy Cross and grandchildren Gavin, Zachary and Noah all of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 step-daughters Gretchen and David Jameson and grandson William all of Overland Park, Kansas and Sara Zoey Mondt of Los Angeles, California; 2 brothers Donald and Jan Cross of Phoenix, Arizona and James and Susan Cross of Portland, Oregon; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday morning, April 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Philip Webb officiating.
Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends and Saturday morning at the Church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.
The Cross family would like to thank the generous donors of the Blood Center of Central Iowa, and the medical staff and physicians at the John Stoddard Cancer Center and Boone County Hospital.
