Gysbertje Boon

Gysbertje Boon, age 94, of 1166-130th Street, died March 26, 2009, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services are Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery. Gysbertje was born in Oosthuizen in the Netherlands on February 17, 1915, the daughter of Jacob and Gysbertje (Borgers) Veenhof. On January 29, 1931, she married Aalt Boon in Ede, Holland. The couple left the Netherlands in 1950 with their children and lived in Boone. After Aalt's death, Gysbertje also lived in Ames for a few years. She presently was living with her daughter, Bertha. Gysbertje was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Women's Circle. Gysbertje was a homemaker and enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, collecting dolls and teapots. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She was a very good cook and also liked to watch Lawrence Welk and Antique Road Show on television and she enjoyed visiting people and going shopping. Gysbertje enjoyed visited her homeland on several occasions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons, Jacob and Bill, a son-in-law, Julean Rose, grandson, David Rose, a sister, and five brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Venny Jefferson and husband, Dick of Fairfield, Bertha Lukawski and husband Jim of Boone and Alice Long and husband Barry of Hereford, Pennsylvania; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Boon of Boone and Carole Boon of Antelope, California; a sister Francien Bruinekreeft of Lunteren, Holland in the Netherlands; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Tuesday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the 10:00 a.m. service.
Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church in Boone or the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
