Shirley LaVonne (Koppenhaver) Alexander passed away on February 24, 2009 of natural causes in Sun City, AZ. She had just turned 74. She was born 2-14-1935 to Everett and Lucille Cook. She married Richard Hall Kooppenhaver on 7-28-1957 in Boone, IA. She is survived by 3 daughters and 1 son. Kim (Kelly) Klute of Concord, CA, Kirk (special friend Kim Throckmorton), Waukee, IA, Karla Pepples (special friend Kim Scheuerman) Story City, IA, and Karen Koppenhaver of Zearing, IA. Four grandchildren, Dan Pepples, Des Moines, IA, Leah Pepples, Ames, IA, Kasian and Kallahan Klute of Concord, CA. One great granddaughter Haley Hedtke of Ames. Two sisters, Mary Fairbanks of AK, Sharon Sindlinger of FL. Four brothers, Wally Cook, NC, Lee Cook, Pleasant Hill, Larry Cook, Boone, Gary Cook, Luther. Many nieces, nephews and friends.
Shirley attended Boone Jr. College. After graduation she taught kindergarten in Fonda and Ogden, IA. She worked at the Boone County Hospital, was a homemaker, volunteered at the Boone Scenic Valley Railroad and the Head Start program. Several years after the death of her husband Richard, she moved to Sun City, AZ where she was involved in volunteer work which she loved. In 2001 she married Harold Alexander in Sun City. He passed away in November of 2001 following a very brief illness.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard in 1994, sister Vivian Buckley and husband Harold Alexander.
At her request, she will be cremated in AZ. The family will be holding a memorial gathering in Boone in a few weeks. Boone News Republican
