Joan Elizabeth McCall Haub was born in Boone County on September 27, 1928, to Grover and Caryl McCall. She died tragically in a car fire at her rural Boone home at 1363 L Ave, on February 8, 2009.
Joan married Ralph Haub of Dayton on September 9, 1950. Two sons were born to this union, David in 1952, and John in 1954.
She was an active member of several organizations and clubs: The Boone Garden Club, Dayton Wranglers, Ogden Saddle Club, Iowa Quarter Horse Association, DAR, Republican Party of IA, IA Arboretum, IA State Horticultural Society and the American Diabetes Association.
Joan was a friend to all, whether 2-legged or 4-legged, plant or animal. She took great pride and pleasure in her family and enjoyed spending time with all.
Leaving to cherish her memory are: husband Ralph Haub, Boone; son David and wife Kathy of Boone, son John and wife Debbie of Osceola; four grandsons ? Jeremiah and wife Angie and Matthew and wife Anna, all of Boone, Michael and wife Brandy, West Des Moines and Daniel and wife Bobbi, Adel; 5 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren; 1 step-great great grandchild. Other survivors include her sister Genevieve and husband Charles Van Horn, Boone, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents and sister and brother-in-law Ruth Ann and Dee Thompson, of Minburn.
All will greatly miss her but are better people for having had Joan in their lives.
As per her request, her body will be cremated with internment at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family requests no flowers; memorials can be made to the family for a fitting memorial tribute to Joan to be determined at a later date.
A celebration of Joan's life will be held at Bethel Church on Saturday, February 14, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served following the celebration. Boone News Republican
