Luella Watson, age 88, of 461 Nature Road, died February 2, 2009, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Funeral services are Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Chaplain Dennis James officiating. Burial will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery.
Luella was born in Nevada, Iowa, on June 13, 1920, the daughter of Benjamin and Lydia (Osborn) Campbell. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1939. On March 19, 1941, she married Elmer Watson in Nevada. Luella was a farm wife and mother. Before her marriage, she worked as a telephone operator in Nevada. After her marriage, she and Elmer farmed in Milford Township in Story County, Woodward, Nevada, and rural Boone. Luella was a member of the Christian Church in Nevada and attended the Mineral Ridge Baptist Church in Ridgeport. She also was a member of the Farm Bureau Women's Group, Boone Saddle Club, and the Iowa State Trail Riders. Luella enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, houseplants, feeding and watching birds, and going to auctions. She also had many collections, most recently, angels. Luella and her husband held the original Hillbilly Auction, north of Boone, for many years.
Luella is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, an infant daughter, VerLee, two brothers, Thomas and Lloyd Campbell, a brother-in-law, Ray Watson, and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Johansen. She is survived by a son, Daniel Watson and wife Audrey of Boone and a daughter, Claudene Peterson and husband LeRoy of Jamaica, Iowa; four grandchildren: Robert Peterson, Chimene Peterson, Travis Watson, and Brittie Crooks; 6 great-grandchildren: Hannah, Chance, and Victoria Peterson, Kael Wirt, and Tacey and Tristan Crooks; two brothers-in-laws, Ken Watson and wife Phyllis, of Boone, and Robert Watson and wife, Dee of Ames; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Watson of Ames.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the chapel Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
