Wendell D. Kalen, 88, Lenoir City, TN, died Friday, Jan. 30. 2009. He was born in Boone County July 12, 1920 the son of Emil J. and Alma (Nystrom) Kalen, and graduated from Boone High School in 1938.
Wendell served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1946. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1951 with a degree in forestry.
Wendell married Bernadine Pepper May 3, 1952 in Boone. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 34 years.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan (Roger) Delp of Loudon, TN and Margaret Jane Kalen (Bob Haufler) of Toronto, Ontario Canada; and a grandson Mallory.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Pauline Lundahl and Roberta Price; and two brothers, Floyd and Ted Kalen.
His body has been cremated and services will be held at a later date.
