Patty Gustafson, 79, went home to be with her Savior at her home in Harcourt Tuesday, January 27, 2009 surrounded by her family. Services will be Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Lanyon Covenant Church in Lanyon, with Pastor Marc Murchison officiating. Burial will be in Lost Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.
Patricia Ann Carlson was born to Hilmer and Gladys (Selim) Carlson on August 29, 1929, her parents' first anniversary on their farm near Paton, Iowa. She graduated from Lanyon High School in 1947 and from Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL in 1951. She worked at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. She married Lauren J. Gustafson on April 4, 1953 at Lanyon Covenant Church; to this union were born 6 children: Wayne, Steven, Sharon, Timothy, Pamela and Ricki. She retired form nursing in 1984.
She was a member of Lanyon Covenant Church, Covenant Women, Svenska Klubben, was a Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader, church treasurer, played piano and led After School Club. She enjoyed baking and was especially known for her Swedish rye bread and ostkaka.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lauren and children: Wayne of Boone, Steve (Rhonda) of Paton, Shari (Bob) of Redfield, SD, Tim (Kris) of Jewell, Pam (Larry) Arentson of Redwood Falls, MN and Rick (Lori) of Hubbard; 15 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Eunice (Don) Shafer of Pendleton, IN, Janet (Larry) Olson of Arlington Heights, IL and Linda (Ken) Hightower of The Woodlands, TX, brothers-in-law: Bob Bergstrom of Des Moines, Vernon (Elaine) Gustafson of Algonquin, IL and Lee (Diane) Gustafson of Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wayne Carlson, sister-in-law Milly Bergstrom and daughter-in-law Sue Gustafson. Boone News Republican
