Robert "Bob" Van Cannon, age 46, of 712 Tama Street, died Sunday, August 24, 2008, at the Boone County Hospital. His body has been cremated and a memorial service will be Friday, August 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Envoy Tim North officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Fairview Cemetery, north of Madrid.
Bob was born in Iowa City on May 31, 1962, the son of Harold Majors and Helen Van Cannon. He graduated from Boone High School. On February 16, 1985, he married JoAnne Dawson in Boone. Bob was employed at Iowa State University for 14 years as a custodian. He then worked for Sinclair Gas Station in Boone for 8 years. He retired in 2004 due to health reasons. Bob enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, watching movies, being outdoors, and card games. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and playing darts.
He was preceded in death by a son, Noah W. Van Cannon, grandparents, Noah and Lillie Van Cannon, his father, and four uncles. Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Boone; three daughters, Kate Reynoldson and companion James Hedlund, Rachael Van Cannon, and Elizabeth Van Cannon, all of Boone; his mother, Helen Van Cannon of Boone; a brother, Michael Van Cannon of Kingston, Texas; a brother-in-law James Dawson and wife Debbie of Johnston; a nephew, Jason Yungclas of Boone; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, James and Mary Dawson of Bella Vista, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Thomas Winger, Jr., Kale Hedlund, and Grace Van Cannon, all of Boone; a son-in-law Thomas Winger Sr.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends may call Thursday at the funeral chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
