Shirley Ann Sorenson, age 82, of 315-17th Street, went to be with her Lord on Friday, October 3, 2008. She succumbed to cancer, which she had been fighting for many years. Her body has been cremated and a Memorial Service will be Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Christian Church with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport.
Shirley was born September 17, 1926, in Boone, the daughter of Allie and Irene (Leininger) Bennett. She graduated from Boone High School in 1944, and on March 16, 1947, she married Lowell M. "Bud" Sorenson in Troy, Missouri. Shirley was employed by the Boone County Hospital in the business office and medical records. She also worked in the Boone County Auditors office and was a medical secretary for Dr. Louis Greco. She ended her career due to a cancer illness.
Shirley was a member of Central Christian Church, Church Circle, and the Christian Women's Fellowship. She enjoyed her many friends, walks in the park, bowling, reading, her Church activities and fellowship. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and their activities. In earlier years, she liked roller skating with her husband and taking car rides with her family. Shirley enjoyed her volunteer work with the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a brother, Don Bennett, a sister, Betty Leichliter, and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Sorenson.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Bud of Boone; a son, Michael Sorenson and wife Connie of Ogden; a daughter, Patricia McLaughlin and husband Tom of Boone; three grandchildren, David M. McLaughlin and wife Barbara of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Shane Sorenson and wife Jodi of Pleasantville, and Chad Sorenson of Ogden; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Karys McLaughlin; four step-grandchildren, Tina McLaughlin, Chad Claire and wife Debbie of Ogden, Darin Lloyd and wife Marilyn of Bayard, and Marc Claire of Grimes; four step great grandchildren, Joey McAllister, Jennifer Claire, Christian Claire, and Jack Lloyd; two brothers, Richard Bennett and wife Frances of St. Louis Park, Minnesota and George DuWayne Bennett and wife Jackie of Roland Heights, California; a sister, Barbara Musser and husband John of Glendale, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Pat Bennett of Boone; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the Central Christian Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to her Church or the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
