Roger Hillard, 72, of 102 Pilot Street in Pilot Mound, Iowa and formerly of St. Paul, Minnesota passed away at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday afternoon, September 29, 2008.
He was born on April 15, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Harold and Marcella (Malenfant) Hillard.
Roger joined the Marines following high school and served nine years. During that time, he spent many years in Haiti on Embassy duty before moving to Camp Lejeune, NC where he ended his military pursuits in the Criminal Investigation Division.
Following the military, Roger pursued detail drafting and fabrication estimating for Mid States Steel in Boone before retiring. Roger was always appreciated for his ready wit, intelligence, generosity and laughter.
His wife Marie, daughter Vicki Berglund and granddaughter Taylor Berglund preceded him in death.
Survivors include his grandchildren Adam and Ashley Berglund both of St. Paul, Minnesota, a brother Richard Hillard of Deerwood, Minnesota, nieces and nephews.
His body has been cremated. There will be no services per Roger's request.
