Violet Gay, age 73, of 1516-3rd Street, died at the Boone County Hospital on October 6, 2008. Funeral services are Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Boone Biblical Memorial Church, 921 West Second Street with Pastor Bruce Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Squire Boone Cemetery, rural Boone.
Violet was born in Harcourt, on January 2, 1935, the daughter of Arvid and Delia (Larson) Peterson. She graduated from Stratford Public High School in 1949. On July 8, 1955, Violet married Conklin Gay in Boone. Violet worked as a bank teller for Boone State Bank and then as a food server and baker for Boone High School Cafeteria for 10 years. She retired in 1983. Violet loved to cook and bake and enjoyed trying new recipes. She also loved being with her family and outdoor activities. After her retirement, Violet and her husband made crafts and sold them at craft shows. She also liked to shop and enjoyed the holidays. In earlier years, she enjoyed sewing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Donald. Violet is survived by her spouse, Conklin of Boone; a daughter, Marsha Eppert and husband, Keith of Luther; two grandchildren, Bradley and Heather Eppert of Luther; a sister, Marian Stark of Stratford; and two nieces, Vicki Bouillon and husband, Marvin and Julie Bjustrom and husband, Bret, all of Boone.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets on Wednesday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation continues at the Church on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
