Joyce Irene Johnson, age 69, of 1202-8th Street, died October 8, 2008, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services are Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Boone.
Joyce was born August 16, 1939, in Boone, the daughter of Edward and Patricia (Hampton) Mitchels. Joyce graduated from Boone High School. She married Emmett Dearborn in Boone in 1957. The couple later divorced. Joyce was a homemaker and enjoyed exercising on her treadmill, cooking, collecting family photographs, and babysitting her grandchildren and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two sons, Keith Dearborn of Boone and Mark Dearborn of Ames; two daughters, Lisa Dearborn and Terry Dearborn, both of Boone; a brother, Francis 'Frank' Mitchels and wife Sheryl of Boone; a sister, Charlene Teed and husband Lee of Ankeny; twelve grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Friday from 1:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the chapel from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
