John P. Westberg was born in Sweden on November 19, 1850.  He came to America in 1884 and moved directly to Boone where he has made his home ever since.  He was married May 18, 1894 to Miss Ann Elizabeth Peterson of Boone Iowa.  Mr. Westberg was a coal miner by trade but several years ago retired and since then had engaged only in work around his home.  His last illness was nearly a year’s duration and for the past 17 weeks he had been confined to his bed.  His death came on July 27 at his home on Short Street.  The funeral service was held Sunday July 30 from the Swedish Lutheran church of which Mr. Westberg recently became a member.  In the absence of the Rev. C.A. Randolph, pastor of the church, the Rev. Joseph Anderson of Boxholm had charge of the service.  The music was furnished by a quartet composed of Miss Mary Johnson and Mrs. Arthur Anderson, and Messrs. C.C. Olson and Harold Thorson.  They sang three selections.  Pallbearers were Messrs. Malcomb Steele, Eric Dahl, Chas. Olson, Gust Grant, Frank Nygren and August Swanson.  The interment was made in Linwood Park cemetery East.  Mr. Westberg is survived by his wife and two-step daughters, Mrs. William Nelson of Boone and Mrs. Albert Carlstedt of Des Moines.
