Vera Standley, 93, formerly of 1005 Aldrich Avenue passed away at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone, on Monday evening, November 24, 2008. She had been a resident at the Home since April of 2007.
She was born on August 24, 1915, in Webster City, Iowa the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Riley) Schweppe.
Vera graduated from the Webster City High School and Webster City Junior College.
On May 2, 1937, she married Dean Standley at her parent's home in Webster City, Iowa.
In 1943, the couple moved to their farm north of Boone on the Century Farm they purchased from the Wahl estate and Dean's father. In 1992, the couple moved into Boone to make their home.
Vera enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She had a passion for flowers and completed certification as a flora designer, which she used in helping other in designing flowers for their home and other special occasions. Vera was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed being with her family. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling throughout the years with her husband in their motor home.
She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star Magi Chapter #139, White Shrine, P.E.O., TTT, past president of PTO, and was active as a Lioness during the time her husband served as a Lion's Club District Governor.
Her parents, husband Dean in January of 1999, an infant son and 3 brothers preceded him in death.
Survivors include 1 son; Dr. Phillip Standley and wife Ima Jean of Bourbonnais, Illinois; 1 daughter Kaye Anderson and husband John of Boone, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, Lori Williams and husband Scott of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Jill Wortham and husband James of Tyler, Texas, Alan Standley and wife Julie of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Kara Standley of Indianapolis, Indiana, Adam Anderson and wife Emma of Brisbane, Australia , Andy Anderson of Lancaster, England and Amye Anderson of Portland, Oregon; and 10 great-grandchildren, Meagan, Andrew and Danae Williams all of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Jacob, Jared and Jenna Wortham all of Tyler, Texas, Claire and Isabel Standley both of Indianapolis, Indiana and Annabel and Amelia Anderson both of Brisbane, Australia.
Services will be held on Saturday afternoon, November 29th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Christian Church in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating.
Interment will be in Bass Point Cemetery north of Boone, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Central Christian Church in Boone on Saturday afternoon from Noon until the time of service with the family present during that time to greet friends.
