Clara Elizabeth Flynn, age 91, of the Evangelical Free Church Home, died at the Home on December 6, 2008. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Harken officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Clara was born October 27, 1917, in Jackson Township in Boone County, the daughter of Holmes and Allie (Payne) Partello. She grew up in the Jordan area and graduated from Jordan Consolidated High School in 1935. Clara then attended Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines. In the early 40's, she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Neff Implement Company and later Leonard and Flynn-International Harvester Dealers in Madrid. On December 14, 1947, Clara married James Flynn.
She helped her husband with the farm and dairy operations in the Jordan area for over 40 years. Clara also was bookkeeper of the farm business.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Boone DeShon Chapter of the DAR, the Motor Torpedo Boat Association of Memphis, Tennessee, Federated Farmerettes, and the Farm Bureau. Clara enjoyed doing latch hook, flower gardening, bird watching, reading the newspaper, and she especially enjoyed family gatherings and activities.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Margaret Partello and Queenie Bennett; and two brothers, Rosco and Herald Partello.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Elizabeth Ann and Robert Brandt of Postville, Patricia Ann and Roland McCubbin of Luther, and Rebecca Ann and Donald Riordan of Boone; a sister, Mildred Samson of Boone; eight grandchildren: Russell Brandt, Nathan Brandt, Scott McCubbin, Breanna McCubbin, Nathan Riordan, Amy Schindel, Emily Kann, and Lydia Pippert; and five great grandchildren: Drew and John Schindel, Isabel and Ella Kann, and Colburn Pippert.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Tuesday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Visitation on Wednesday will be at the First Presbyterian Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
