Leslie G. Doran, age 92, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home and formerly of 668 P Avenue, died December 12, 2008, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central Christian Church with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating. Burial will be in the Bass Point Cemetery. Prior to the Church service, there will be a Memorial Service Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Leslie was born October 10, 1916, in Des Moines Township in Boone County, the son of George and Ida (Reynoldson) Doran. He graduated from Boone High School in 1934. On February 20, 1938, Leslie married Dollie Mann at the Central Christian Church in Boone. Leslie lived all his life in Des Moines Township on Linn Street Road now P Avenue, and farmed, retiring in 1983.
He was a Past Master and 50 year member of the Masons Mt. Olive Lodge #79 AF & Am, and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Leslie was very active with his church, serving as Past Chairman of the Board of Directors, and serving as Elder, Trustee, and he was involved with the Home Builders Sunday School. He enjoyed antique cars, tractors, gardening, collecting gasoline engines, fixing things, and was always willing to help people. Leslie restored a 1922 Ford Model T from junk, which he enjoyed driving in many parades.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dollie of 55 years, and two sisters, Hazel Stotts and Vera Stevens.
Leslie is survived by a son, John Doran of San Francisco, CA.; two daughters, Mary Lou Brown and husband Homer of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Margaret 'Maggie' Stone and husband Cal of Boone; five grandchildren: Brian Edgar and wife Lynn of St. Peters, Missouri, Aaron Edgar of Lincoln, Nebraska, Matt Stone of Boone, Ben Stone of Cedar Falls, and Cara Stone of Newton; two great grandchildren, Allison and Logan Edgar.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Monday from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will be Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. On Tuesday, friends may call at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to the Central Christian Church.
