June Carroll, age 75, of 2003 Cedar Street, died January 7, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in the Boone Memorial Gardens.
June was born on June 1, 1933, in Jackson County near Maquoketa, Iowa the daughter of James and Hattie (Whitmore) Risinger. June was one of eighteen children and at the age of 10 was adopted by Mary and William Conrad of Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1951 and then worked at Herb Moffitt's Ford as a bookkeeper. On June 21, 1952, June married Jim Carroll in Boone. She then worked in catalog sales at Sears, was a bookkeeper at Luther Consolidated Schools, the Lutheran Home in Madrid and for the Luther-Madrid Coop, was a Nurses Aide at the Lutheran Home, worked at Bourns in Ames, and worked in the children's department at Wal-Mart. She lastly provided home-care to shut-ins and cared for many family members and friends. June served as Treasurer for the American Legion Post #56 Auxiliary. Her hobbies included crocheting, crossword and jig saw puzzles, crafts, mushroom hunting every spring, and spending time with her family. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed baking and making candies and cookies during Christmas and making weekly desserts for the American Legion Bingo. June collected angel figurines and boot knick-knacks.
June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, eight brothers, and four sisters. She is survived by three sons, Kevin Carroll of Des Moines, Tim Carroll and fiancée Laurie Sheehy of Luther, and Dave Carroll and wife Marie of Hampton; three brothers, Donald Risinger of Sherman, Texas, Fay Risinger of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Marvin Saville of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sisters, Mary McGlamery of Council Bluffs and Janice Hatter of Marion; five grandchildren: Justin Carroll and wife Christine of Ames, Cory Carroll of Nevada, Nate Carroll of Paton, Jamie Carroll and Briana Carroll, both of Hampton; and three great grandchildren: Kayden Limon, Taylor Heggen, and Mackenzie Carroll.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Visitation continues Tuesday at the funeral chapel from 8:00 a.m. until service time.
