Larry John Sprecher, 68, passed from this life on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, at Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid. Burial will follow at Squire-Boone Cemetery, northwest of Luther.
Larry was born on February 14, 1940 in Ogden, Iowa to Theodore "Ted" and Elsie Hasstedt Sprecher. He was a graduate of United Community High School. On July 10, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marlyn Janette Harris at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Boone, Iowa, and to this union one son, Brian was born. Larry was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid, the Central Iowa 2-Cylinder Club (John Deere) and served on the board at United Mutual Insurance Association. He loved riding the motorcycle with his wife, Marlyn and they traveled out west on many vacations. Larry was a loving, caring and devoted father, grandfather, son, brother and friend; he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Brian Sprecher of Luther; mother, Elsie Sprecher; one grandson, Clayton (Megan Wilcox) Sprecher; sister, Loris Sprecher; brother and sister-in-law, Harlan and Marla Sprecher all of Boone; brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Cindi Sprecher of Ogden; and sister-in-law, Faye Carlson of Madrid. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving friends. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Ted Sprecher; father-in-law, Nolan Harris; beloved wife of 48 years, Marlyn Sprecher on November 2, 2007; and his mother-in-law, Beulah Harris on May 4, 2008.
A visitation will be held after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
