Clarence "CW" Snedden, 91, of 618 Linn Street in Boone passed away at the Boone County Hospital on Monday afternoon, December 29, 2008.
He was born April 27, 1917 in Peoples Township, Boone County, Iowa the son of Henry and Ethel (Miller) Snedden.
On October 8, 1938, he married Ruth Marie Cutler at her parents' home in Boone.
He grew up in Boone County and graduated from Boone High School in 1936. Following graduation, he worked with his father on the farm. Clarence also worked in the drive-in Grocery Market in Boone before starting to farm for himself in 1940. Clarence was a farmer and livestock feeder for many years in Marcy and Peoples Township south of Ogden. He loved to farm and always wanted to be in the out of doors. In 1947, the family moved to Boone, but Clarence continued to farm by commuting to the farm each day.
Clarence was best known as just "CW". One of his great pleasures was to meet with his friends for coffee or breakfast each day. In addition to farming, he enjoyed gardening and raising beautiful flowers. In later years, Clarence took up golf, which he loved to play, always hoping for that elusive hole in one. Throughout the years, the couple wintered in Mesa, Arizona and enjoyed traveling to Branson, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas, and of course golfing at all their destinations.
Clarence was a member of the Central Christian Church in Boone since 1937, Woodward Golf and Country Club, Boone Golf and Country Club, Moose Lodge #104 in Boone, and a lifetime member of Elks Club #407 in Perry.
His parents, 3 brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, who he was married to for 70 years; a son Steve Snedden and wife Sandie of Sun City, Arizona; a daughter Lynn Deal and husband Ted of Ankeny; grandchildren Debbie (Snedden) Dietlin of Torrance, California, Shane Snedden and wife Emily of Shanghai, China, Justin Snedden and wife Teryl of Plainfield, Illinois, Aaron Deal and wife Lynnette of Des Moines, and Mindy (Deal) Carratt and husband Darrin of Ankeny; great-grandchildren Danielle Gallegos and Desiree Boyd both of Torrance, California, Connor and Garrett Snedden both of Plainfield, Illinois and Caleb Carratt of Ankeny; and a sister-in-law Barbara Snedden of Johnston.
Services will be held on Friday afternoon, January 2nd at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Christian Church in Boone with Rev. Paul Fraser officiating.
Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.
Visitations will be held at the Central Christian Church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
