FUNERAL PETER CARLSON TUESDAY

Deceased Was a Pioneer Resident of the Local Community - Came Here in 1881

Funeral Held at the Methodist Church With the Rev. G. W. Hall in Charge

The funeral services for Peter L. Carlson, a long time resident of the Madrid community were held Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church in this city, with Rev. G. W. Hall in charge of the funeral discourse. Interment was made in the Fairview Cemetery just northwest of the local community.
The deceased had been sick for a lengthy period of time, and had been in the hospital at Boone, and also Iowa City. He became seriously ill last summer and from than time on his condition graually grew worse. He was a patient sufferer and his death came in the form of a relief to him.
Mrs. Jonas Cleven and Mrs. Walter Anderson sang during the services, "Some Day the Silver Cord Will Break," "My Father Knows," and "The Old Rugged Cross".
Mr. Carlson was born in Calmer Sweden, March 5, 1856, and passed away at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 15 days. He came to this country at the age of 25 years, locating in this community, where he was employed for a number of years in the store owned by the father of A. T. Johnson, later moving to the farm where he passed away.
He was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Tibus in February, 1904, and to this union were born three children, the two daughters passing away in infancy, and the one son, George, who survives his father.
Mr. Carlson was well known in the Madrid community and was a steadfast member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Madrid. This organization administered unto him during his long illness, and bestowed honor upon his memory during the services at the cemetery. Mr. Carlson leaves no near relatives with the exception of his one son, George. Mrs. Carlson passed away in 1916. His wide circle of friends will feel their loss greatly.
To the son who survives the sympathy of the entire community is expressed.
