Rev Harry L. Smith, 85, Beaver, died Jan 31,1983 at the Ogden Manor. He was born Nov 29, 1897 near McConnel Illinois, the sone of George and Minnie Smith. He married Clara Walker in 1924.
Mrs Smith died in 1974 and he married Erma Bruhl in October of 1975.
The Rev Smith moved to Greene Iowa in 1913, and was a graduate of Greene High School. He was a 1922 graduate of Mt. Morris College, and a 1926 graduate of Bethany Biblical Seminary in Chicago. He served churches in Hope, Ark St. Joseph, Mo.,and Panther Creek Church near Adel. He moved to Beaver in 1927 and was pastor of the Church of The Brethren, He also worked at the Quaker Oats Elevator from 1929 to 1962, and was Mayor of Beaver for 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Erma of Grand Junction, two sons, Delbert of Newton Kansas and Harold of Adel. Two daughers Etha Brust of Fargo N.D. And Mary Landhuis Columbia Mo-Stepbhildren, Mrs Floyd Stebbeds of Des Plains Illinois and Mrs Laland Burket of Grand Junction,two sisters, Mrs Hugh Frazier Of Charles City and Thelma Osborne of Yuma Arizina. Two brothers, Clifford, of Marble Rock and Galen of Greene. Also 13 grandchildren,eight stepgrandchildren,six great grandchildren and 14 step-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday at the Church of the Brethren in Beaver, with burial in the Panther Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Carson Funeral Home in Ogden from 1-9 pm Thursday. There will be a prayer service at 7pm Thursday at Carsons.
