Alice B. McNertney, age 92, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died January 18, 2008, at the Home. A Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Alice was born in Enterprise, Iowa, on November 21, 1915, the daughter of William and Alice (Newton) McAlpine. She graduated from Boone High School and on February 27, 1935, she married Frank McNertney in Boone.
Alice was a homemaker and for many years was housekeeper and prepared the meals for the priests at the Sacred Heart Rectory. She was very active in her church with the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, and cleaning the church sanctuary and altar. Alice enjoyed walking, watching baseball and basketball and other sports, cooking, cleaning, baking, and in earlier years, baking yeast rolls for the nuns in the convent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, William, and a sister, Margaret. Alice is survived by three daughters, Ann Eamer of Ocala, Florida, Frances Johnson of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and Mary Ellen Tinsley of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Mary McAlpine of Madrid; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. where a Vigil service will be at 6:00 p.m. and the family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Church of the Sacred Heart.
