Ruth Broekemeier, 76, of 1189 232nd St., in Moingona, died at the Boone County Hospital Monday of respiratory failure. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona.
She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on March 18, 1928, the daughter of Charles and Alice (O'Brien) Wilson. She lived in the Boston area until 1946. She married Gerald Broekemeier in Osmond, Neb., on Sept. 15, 1946. She and her husband lived in northeastern Nebraska on a farm until 1962 when they moved to Moingona.
She was a licensed practical nurse from 1973 to 1990, working at the Boone County Hospital and several area nursing homes, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Foreign Bride Club in Nebraska and the Trinity Lutheran Church of Boone. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and shopping.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Gerald; four sons, Richard Broekemeier and his wife, Tina, of Prairie DuChien, Wis., Gerald Broekemeier of Ames, David Broekemeier of Austin, Texas, and Paul Broekemeier and his wife, Missy, of Garwin; a daughter, Linda Sampson and her husband Keith of Colo; a half-sister, Clairis Wilson of Benton Harbor, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, and two great-children.
Friends may call from noon until 9 p.m. Friday at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets, where the family will be present from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion. Schroeder Memoral Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets is in charge of the arrangements.
