Stanley J. Stecker, 73, 1504 Story St., Boone, died at the Israel Family Hospice in Ames Sunday morning due to omplications from cancer. Services were Thursday afternoon at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, with the Rev. Pastor Daniel W. Solomon officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Veterans Council of Boone was in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

He was born April 3, 1931, in Titonka, the son of Fred and Greta (Arends) Stecker. On May 21, 1952, he married Jacquelyn Ehrhardt at the United Methodist Church in Swea City.

He was a graduate of Lakota High School. He was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving two years from 1952 to 1954 with the U.S. Marine Corp. He learned cabinet making at Forest City Millworks under the GI Bill. He was in partnership of a cabinet shop while living in Lakota. The couple moved to Boone in 1964.

Stan was a superintendent for R.H. Grabau Construction, James Thompson and Sons Construction and Taylor-Ball Construction.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Boone Marine Corp League, American Legion in Boone, RSVP, Mirza Masonic Lodge 609 Scottish Rite in Pilot Mound, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Fez B Club in Pilot Mound, Boone County Shrine Club and he was a fomer member of the Boone Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister in infancy, three sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of Boone; two sons, Mike Stecker and his wife Becky of Boone and Tom Stecker and his wife Maggie of Boone; three daughters, Deb Potter and her husband Don of Des Moines, Sue Howell and her husband Tom of Boone, and Michele Hull and her husband Scott of Boone; 13 grandchildren, Chad Stecker of Boone, BJ Stecker of Spirit Lake, Shana Rainey and her husband Mark of Boone, Mark Stecker, Andy Gus, Ali Gus, Aaron Howell, Sydney Stecker and Jacob Stecker, all of Boone, Jason Howell of Coralville, Denise Potter of Des Moines, Don Peta and Ron Peta both of Estherville; a great-grandson, Will Rainey of Boone; two sisters, Marcella Grabko and her husband Bob of Rochester, Minn., and Gertrude Banks and her husband Chuck of Oceanside, Calif.; four brothers, Alvin Stecker and his wife Margie of Titonka, George Stecker and his wife Arlene of Delta, Colo., Fred Stecker and his wife Janice of Lakota, and Bruno Stecker of Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Central Iowa or the Israel Family Hospice House.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone was in charge of the arrangements.
