Vernon "Verne" Jacob Doran III 1943-2005

Vernon "Verne" Jacob Doran III, age 62 of Bouton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at his daughter's home in New Cumberland, West Virginia.

Verne was born on September 23, 1943 in Boone, Iowa, the son of Vernon Jacob II and Etta Arlene (Mann) Doran. Verne attended one year of high school in Boone, then attended and graduated from Blakesburg High School at Blakesburg, Iowa. Vernon served in the U.S. Army during Korea. Verne lived in Des Moines, Iowa where he managed a jewelry store, he then worked in retail management and co-owned, Your General Store in Des Moines, for a few years. Vernon managed the Coastal Gas and Convenience Store in Des Moines near Merle Hay Mall. He later co-owned the Iowa Medical Billing Services.

Verne has lived in Bouton for the last 7 years. Verne attended the Church of God of Prophecy of Boone, he loved being with his grandchildren, he enjoyed, hunting, photography and working with his computer. He enjoyed his pet Chihuahua, Tia.

He is preceded by his father, his sister, Elaine Doran

He is survived by his mother, Etta "Doran" Stewart of Boone, and his daughter Barbara Norton of New Cumberland, West Virginia, his son, Rev. Vernon Jacob Doran IV and his wife Rebekah of Columbia Falls, Montana, his daughter, Ginny Van Skike of Ottumwa, Iowa.

His nine grandchildren, his brother, Stephen "Steve" Doran of Boone, Iowa; his sister, Darlene Boyd and her husband David of Springfield, Missouri; his sister Joan Birkinbine and her husband Paul of Springfield, Missouri; his sister, Caryl Doran of Denver, Colorado; his numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, December 19, 2005 at the Church of God of Prophecy, 21st and Crawford Streets of Boone. The Rev. Brent S. McMasters will officiate.

Burial will be in the Bass Point Cemetery, Northwest of Boone. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Boone Veterans Council.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the Schroeder ~ Walter, Fifth and Story Streets of Boone from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., visitation will continue on Monday morning at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., then at the church from 11:30 a.m. to the time of service at 1:00 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, Fifth and Story Street of Boone is in charge of the arrangements.
