Wayne "Speck" Grabau 1957-2003

Wayne "Speck" Grabau, 45, 717 Phillips St., Polk City, and formerly of Boone, died Sunday at his home of cancer.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Central Christian Church in Boone with the Rev. Jerry Evelsizer officiating. Burial with military honors by the Boone Veterans Council was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Madrid.

He was born Nov. 26, 1957, in Boone, the son of Otto and Adeline "Addie" (Borg) Grabau. He graduated from South Hamilton High School in Jewell in 1976 and then served in the United States Marine Corps. He married Jean Thomas Sept. 26, 1987, at Camp Dodge.

He was quality control manager at Qualis Inc., Des Moines, where he worked for 26 years before retiring in September of 2002 for health reasons. His hobbies included camping, hunting and fishing with his family.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael, of Polk City; one daughter, Leslie of Polk City; his mother of Boone; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Doc and Kathy, Buck and Linda and Forrest and Patricia, all of Boone; and one sister and brother-in-law, Paula and James Pudil of Mankato, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, was in charge of arrangements.
