James D. "Jim" Morgan, 80, 2003 Cedar St., Boone, died Wednesday at his home of heart failure. He was born May 7, 1922, in Boone, the son of Thomas and Margaret (Weller) Morgan. He married Gertrude Reineman Jan. 23, 1952, in Carroll.

He served with the United States Army during World War II and was employed with Iowa Electric Light & Power Co. for more than 20 years, working in the gas department. He then worked as a custodian at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames for eight years, retiring in 1990. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards and playing bingo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenny and Johnny; and one sister, Mabel Kelly. Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Cheri Morgan of Ogden and Bill and Laurie Morgan of Boone; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Devon Thompson of Ogden and Vicki and Tom York of Boone; one brother, Emmett Morgan of Boone; four sisters, Dolly Braddock, Geneva May, Theresa Carlson and Dorothy Overland, all of Boone; seven grandchildren, Angie Runyan, Jason and Ryan York, and Nathan, Landon, Christopher and Amanda Morgan; and two great-grandchildren, Tristen Morgan and Alicia Runyan.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, with the Rev. Dr. Herb Foxworthy officiating. Graveside services with military honors by the Boone Veterans Council will follow at Boone Memorial Gardens. The body will be cremated following the graveside service and burial of the cremains will be in Boone Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. visitation continues Saturday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
