Russel L. Smith, 92, Hemet, Calif., died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Hemet Valley Hospital. Interment was at Menifee Valley Memorial Park, Sun City, Calif.
Russel Smith was born July 2, 1914 at Ogden, the son of Elva and Bessie Smith, and grandson of William and Dora Morgan, all of Ogden. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1933 and later from Santa Monica, Calif. Technical College.
Most of his working years were spent in the aircraft industry, both Douglas Aircraft and Northrup Grumman where he was a supervisor in the manufacturing and tooling departments.
Russel was a member of Westwood Hills Congregational Church and served as deacon and trustee for many years. He enjoyed many sports including flying and boating, and traveling. Russel held a private pilot's license and logged many hours in the air with several trips to Iowa. He was also an accomplished musician.
Surivors include his wife, Jean of 69 years; a daughter, Gail Cudney of Minden, Nev.; a son, Kent Smith of Oroville, Calif.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren;
He will sorely be missed by his family and friends.
