Irene Nygren, 87, a resident of the Evangelical Free Church Home, Boone, died Wednesday at the home of heart failure. She was born March 17, 1915, in Ogden, the daughter of Gus and Zelda (Wisecup) Peterson. She married Boone Nygren Aug. 27, 1936, in Council Bluffs.

She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School. She then attended Drake University in Des Moines and received her master's degree in teaching. She taught county school and also taught at Jordan, Moingona and Napier schools in Boone County for more than 30 years. She lived most of her life in Boone County. Her hobbies included Crewel Picture stitch work.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Jeffrey Wilson; one brother, Ralph Peterson; and one sister, Gladys Schmidt. Survivors include her daughter, Karen Dash of Atwood, TN; two grandchildren, Cliff Wilson and his wife, Jackie, of Prairie City, and MiAnn Wilson of Milan, TN; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Archie Peterson of Boone and Howard Peterson of Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, with David Schwechel officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona.

Friends may call at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues Monday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
