Lewis Sargent, 65, of Jewell and formerly of Boone and Ogden, died in northeastern Boone County on Monday. The cause of death is pending autopsy results He was born June 23, 1935 in Boone, the son of Edward and Ada (Shearer) Sargent. He graduated from Ogden High school in 1953. He married Rosemarie Kiddie on February 14, 1961 in Boone. He served in the United States Army for two years in the late 1950's.
In earlier years, he worked for gas stations in Ogden and Washington. He was presently working as a truck driver and set up machinery for Jewell Implement for the last 35 years. He was serving his second term as a councilman for the Jewel city council. He delivered the Des Moines Register for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Stratford Strutters Square Dancing Club and danced in Boone and Gilbert. His hobbies included reading, gardening, and collecting International toy tractors.
He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Wendy, of Mitchellville, Vincent, of Grand Island, Neb., and Clint and Margaret, of Missouri Valley; one daughter and son-n-law, Sharyl and Weston Keil, of Manson; his mother; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Willard and Sherry, and Frank and Connie, all of Jewell, Arthur and Elaine, of Boone, and Tom of Baytown, Tex.; one sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Jon Klement, of Sedalia, Mo.; a mother-in-law, Charlotte "Lottie" Hull, of Boone; and three grandchildren, Mollie and Jamie Keil, and Chase Sargent.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall streets, with the Rev. Lyle Schober and the Rev. Hester Williams officiating. Burial will be in Squire Boone cemetery, south of Boone.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall streets, on Thursday from noon until 9 p.m., and on Friday from 8 a.m. until time of service.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel, 6th and Marshall streets, was in charge of arrangements.
