Funeral services for Deloris Mae Griffin, 78, Ogden, were Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Slininger-Rossow Chapel, Jefferson, with Pastor Larry Monthei of Hope United Methodist Parish officiating.

Mrs. Griffin died Wednesday, July 5 at Boone County Hospital.

Casket bearers were Pat and Dick Griffin, Jason and Mike Kersey, Jim Batcheller and Randy Eide.

Soloist Kenny Monthei sang "In the Garden" and "One Day at a Time."

Deloris Griffin was born Dec. 28, 1927 in Jefferson, the daughter of Raymond and Edna (Gainer) Shorey. Deloris was so small that her parents used her dad's shoe box for her to sleep in. She attended school in Jefferson and was employed cleaning business offices and homes. She was known as "Chic" to many people.

Deloris married Fred Griffin Oct. 17, 1958 at the Presbyterian parsonage in Jefferson. The couple moved to Spring Lake, North Carolina where Fred was stationed with the United States Air Force. They lived in several different states, including two years and six months in Waipahu, Hawaii.

While in Hawaii Deloris received a letter from the housing director at the K. I. Sawyer Air Force Base stating that her home had won an award for being the cleanest home he had inspected in 39 years, and no one had ever received this award from the Air Force.

Deloris and Fred loved to travel to different states visiting old friends and sight-seeing. She enjoyed fishing and flower gardening. Deloris especially like to attend air shows with her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Fred Rather.

While living in Hawaii, Deloris got herself a brown miniature poodle which she learned to groom herself, just as the professionals do.

Survivors include her husband; three sisters, Helen and her husband Fred Rather and Wilma Higgins, all of Boone, and JoAnn and her husband Darrell Kersey of Ogden; a brother, Raymond and his wife Gertrude Shorey of Washington, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.

Interment was at Paton Township Cemetery, Paton.

Services were arranged by Slininger-Rossow Funeral Homes, Inc., of Jefferson.
