Hertha L. Vaudt, 93, Storm Lake, and formerly of Boone, died Friday at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 3, 1909, in Ida Grove, the daughter of Cornelius and Louisa (Streck) Boysen. She married Herbert H. Vaudt Dec. 12, 1937, in Ida Grove.

She was baptized and confirmed in Ida Grove and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1927. She then took normal training and taught country school in Ida County. She also worked as an aide for Boone County Home Health Care Services. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, where she participated in Ladies Guild and Fellowship Club. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting and tatting, playing cards and spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Walter and Gustav; and three sisters, Mary Schmidt, Minnie Peterson and Florence Rice. Survivors include her husband; three sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Myrene of Dakota Dunes, SD, Dick and Jan of Marshalltown and Denny and Sue of Storm Lake; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Roger Strasser of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren, Shari Benson and her husband, Marc, Sharla Mozer and her husband, Brad, Shelley Clayton and her husband, Dale, Brad Vaudt and his wife, Dawn, Brian Vaudt and his wife, Shanan, Brady Vaudt and his wife, Liz, Brenda Headington and her husband, Darin, Cory Vaudt and his fiance, Bridget DeVos, Dan Vaudt, Libby Vaudt, Jill Metheny and her husband, W.D., and Jodi Johnson and her husband, Jeff; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Elmer Rice of Sioux City; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Lindsay Watkins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Storm Lake Cemetery with the Rev. E.W. Lichtsinn officiating.

Friends may call at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake after 3 p.m. Tuesday. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of services.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone or to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Nurses Association in Storm Lake.
