James A. Ward, 60, Boone, died Tuesday at his home of natural causes. He was born Nov. 10,1940, in Boone, the son of John and Margaret (Brown) Ward. He married Barbara M. Jackson, Aug. 31, 1991.

He lived his entire live in Boone County. He attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1958. He worked as a brick mason for 35 years and had worked at Boucher Masonry Contracting in Boone for the past 13 years. He was a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsman Union Local No. 3 of Iowa. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, trapping, gardening and being with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, John; and one sister, Joyce. Survivors include his wife; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John J. and Amy Ward, and William H. Ward, all of Boone; one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia S. and Kenneth Dierking of Boone; three grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Ward and Keaton Dierking, all of Boone; his mother of Boone; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Judy and Larry Walters of Boone, Janice and Glen Lee of Boxholm, Beverly Scott of Norfolk, Neb., and Joann Jacobson of Graysville, Tenn.; one brother-in-law, Joel Pearson of Enterprise, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday at Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home, 503 Story St., Boone, with the Rev. Barbara Dinnen officiating. Burial was in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Memorials may be given to the family.
