Florence Irene Williams, 92, Anamosa, died Thursday at Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa following a brief illness. She was born Jan. 12, 1910, in Boone County, the daughter of Frederick Leroy and Jennie Melia (Nelson) Sturtz. She married John Derrill Williams June 23, 1932, in Boone.
She was baptized March 27, 1910 and confirmed June 15, 1924, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. She graduated from Boone High School in 1927. She and her husband made their home in Cedar Rapids, Nevada and Cascade before moving to Anamosa in 1948. She worked as a secretary for the Iowa Prison Industries for 20 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Anamosa and took an active part in church organizations. She also was an Izaak Walton League member since 1949, serving both chapter and state offices, and she was a member of Professional Business Women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Wendy Lyn Williams; two brothers, George and Lester Sturtz; and one sister, Frances Sturtz. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Allen of Sarasota, FL and Frederick Grant and Winifred of Monticello; six grandchildren, Lisa, Kevin, Lane, Greg, Lee and Leslie Anne; eight great-grandchildren; and one Godchild, Nancy Freese Bickford of Anamosa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerry Egel officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Anamosa.
Friends may call at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
