Josephine A. "Jo" Roeder, 95, formerly of 510 South Clinton Street, Boone passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on Monday morning, May 1, 2006. She had been a resident at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone since October of 2001.

She was born on March 15, 1911 in Boone the daughter of Elmer and Christina (Robertson) Erickson.

On June 2, 1935, she married Wesley J. Roeder at her parent's home in Boone.

Jo attended schools in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1929. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and received a teaching certificate. Jo taught school for several years in a country school north of Ogden. She worked at and managed Reikenberg's Clothing and Dry Goods Store in Boone for many years. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary for over 20 years.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone for over 60 years.

Her parents, husband, Wesley in December of 1993, three brothers, Roland Erickson, LaVerne Erickson and Lawrence Erickson, and one sister, Berniece Kelley preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan (Jill) Roeder of Breezy Point, Minn., Stephen (Janice) Roeder of Callawassie Island, S.C., six grandchildren, Janna Barr of Jordan, Minn., Nancy (Andrew) Lyons of Duluth, Ga., Christopher (Jodie) Roeder of Brainerd, Minn., Erick (Ann) Roeder of Kansas City, Mo., Tina (Jon) Strong of Gross Point Farms, Mich., Andrew Roeder of Beaufort, S.C., five great-grandchildren, Cade and Kailen Roeder of Brainerd, Minn., Ashley and Devin Strong of Gross Point Farms, Mich., and Wesley Roeder of Kansas City, Mo., three nephews, Duncan Erickson of Salem, S.C., Kent Erickson of Scottsdale, Ariz., Dr. Kim Erickson of Cascade, Mich., three nieces, Gwen Bergendoff of Storm Lake, Kae Robbins of Grimes, and Caryl Ann Polk of San Jose, Calif.

Services will be held on Thursday morning, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Phil Webb officiating.

Interment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. and on Thursday morning at the church from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.

The family will be present at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Wednesday evening from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to greet friends.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association or the First United Methodist Church in Boone.

Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
