Bernice Oppedahl, 86, a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, died Saturday at the home of heart failure. She was born Dec. 8, 1914, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Peter and Bertha (Nelson) Hove. She married Gilbert Oppedahl Oct. 14, 1935, in Boone.
She attended Stanhope High School and was a housewife. In earlier years she did housekeeping for the Dr. Herman and the Dr. Puntenney families. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and her hobbies included family activities, crocheting and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Merle, Leon and Archie Hove; and one great-grandson, Grant Oppedahl. Survivors include four sons and two daughters-in-law, Lloyd and Marilyn of Vidalia, LA, Iver, and David and Janice of Boone and James of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Janice Dickerson and Susanne B. Oppedahl of Boone and JoAnn Tolyan of Denison; one sister, Ina Kenezevich of Los Angeles, CA; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Augustana Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Solomon officiating. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall streets, Boone, Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the funeral chapel from 8 to 11 a.m. and at the church from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.
Memorials may be given to Augustana Lutheran Church.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
