Nixon -- Sunday Morning, May 21, W.W. Nixon, the only surviving brother of the late J. Sharpe Nixon of this place, and well-known here, died at his home in Boone, Iowa. A Boone paper says of him:
He had been troubled for some time with asthma, although he has been active in life almost up to the time of death. But about a month ago he was compelled to leave his work and the final sickness set in. The deceased was born in Chambersburg, Pa, in 1825. He was afterward a resdient of Ohio, where he enlisted his services in the cause of the Union, being promoted successively to the rank of lieutenant and captain. After the war he came to Iowa and lived four years in Nevada, when he came to Boone in 1869. He has since resided here, with the exception of two or three years, when he resided in Pierre, Dak., and Pueblo. This was about five years ago, when he again returned to Boone, as the climate did not seem to agree with him. Mr. Nixon was among our first mayors. He was four years collector of internal revenue for this district, being appointed by U.S. Grant. He was councilman for a time and recently clerk and librarian, which position he had to give up on account of poor health. In every capacity he served faithfully, a man of sound judgment and unquestioned integrity. Capt. Nixon was a prominent worker in the W.C. Crooks G.A.R. post. He was a Mason, and an Odd Fellow, and all three of the societies were called together to attend his funeral, which was held at the residence Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W.P. Payne of Nevada, formerly of Boone, preached a short sermon. The deceased leaves a widow and four children, all grown. They are Mr. Will Nixon, of Boston; Mrs. Fannie Barndollar, of Pueblo; Mrs. Susie Moore, of Des Moines, and Mrs. Anna L. Streit, of Pueblo.

-source of this obit is unknown, as is the year. I believe it is from an out of state paper, because it was in with some other obituaries in my gg-aunt's genealogy files. All of the other obits in the folder were from Pennsylvania. Neither do I know of a family relationship to any of the families I am researching. I checked calendars ... Sunday, May 21st was in both 1893 and 1899, also the time-period of the other obits in the file.

If you can date this obit, please let either me or the Boone co. coordinator know so it can be added. Thank-you.
