Leslie V. Lee, 88, died on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11 a.m at Madrid Evangelical Free Church, 2243 S Ave. (Hwy. 17) Madrid with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Madrid.
Leslie was born in Altoona on August 1, 1923 to Leslie Barlow and Golda Belle (Lacey) Lee and had lived most of his life in the Des Moines area. Leslie married Helen (Welder) on August 27, 1966, in Minneapolis. He was a licensed funeral director for over 40 years working at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines, IA. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II, and graduated from St. Louis School of Mortuary Science, was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Madrid, and was a past member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association.
Leslie is survived by his wife Helen, sister-in-laws Emily Lee and Aleta Lee, of California, Violate Poindexter of Madrid, IA. and Lois Peterson of Elk River, MN., as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers. Memorial contributions may be directed to the New Horizons Adult Day Care in Ankeny.
