Born: April 25, 1841 in Schuyler Co., Missouri, to George & Lucy (Farris) Hull
Funeral Services: Meadow Grove Church east of Luther, Iowa, Dec. 24, at 2 p.m.
Burial: Hull Cemetery, Worth Twp., Boone Co., Iowa
Life Sketch:
Jackson Hull, pioneer resident of Boone county and one of the eight Civil War veterans in the Madrid vicinity, passed away December 22, 1927 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Porter (Ida) Zenor . . .
Mr. Hull, who was in his 80s, was the uncle of Henry Hull, the first white child born in Boone county and had resided in the Meadow Grove vicinity for years. His farm was the gathering place each year for the Hull family reunion, one of the largest acssociations of its kind in this section of the state. "Uncle Jackson" was always a genial host at the picnics in his grove . . .
He is survived by his daughter and son, Frank, a resident of the Meadow Grove vicinity, and by a large circle of other relatives, particularly in the south part of the county. Mrs. M. B. Jones, in Boone, was a great-niece of Mr. Hull. The relatives will have the sympathy of friends all over the county. . .
Jackson Hull enlisted in the Union army in 1861 and participated in the battles of Pittsburg Landing, Iuka, Black River, Vicksburg, and was in the Atlanta campaign. There he was taken prisoner and sent to Andersonville, the southern prison hell, and was there when "Providential Spring" broke forth. Exchanged, he joind Sherman and marched to the sea. He was in Washington, D.C. and was mustered out in July 1865.
On March 17, 1867, he united in marriage with Mary Jane Payne, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Benjamin A. Payne. They began housekeeping on a forty acre farm. Later, they sold this and purchased a part of the land on which they built and established the home where they lived the rest of their lives. They bought more land as the opportunity presented, until their holdings were comparatively extensive. They had three children, Rebecca May who married Benjamin F. Hull, and who died in childbirth at age twenty-one; Ida who married Porter H. Zenor, and Frank who married Minnie Boone.
