Burial: Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa
A quartet sang "Shall We Meet at the River" in Swedish as requested by her mother.
Pallbearers: Ralph Jacobson, Paul Thompson, George Anderson, Ray Myers, Charles McLarnan and Ray Page.
Life Sketch:
Gladys LaVine, daughter of Karl W. and Anna Blomgren, was born Saturday, March 30, 1901 in Knox County, Illinois. When she was five years old, she came with her parents to a farm near Boone and here she grew to womanhood. She received her early education in the school near her home and graduated from the Boone High School with the class of 1919. After graduation, she taught for some time in both Boone and Hamilton counties.
Before she left Illinois, she was baptised and later at the age of fifteen, was confirmed in the Augustana Lutheran church of Boone.
June 30, 1920, she was married to Charles H. Latham and lived on a farm south of Boone. In March 1931, she was diagnosed with cancer and had two serious operations. On January 19, 1932, she was united in marriage to A. D. Newman, living at her parental home where she was bedfast for eight months prior to her death, June 3, 1933 at the age of 32 years 2 months and 4 days.
Left to mourn her loss are her parents, husband, one sister, Mrs. Clara Hull, two brothers, Lloyd W. and Forrest C. Blomgren; two nieces, Lorraine and Marian Blomgren, and one nephew, Bobby Blomgren, and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Two brothers preceded her in death.
Relatives from out of town attending the services were Elmer Nilson of Stratford, Frank Nelson of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Alfred Nelson and daughter Ethel of Bishop Hill, Ill., Mr. & Mrs. Paul Hannum of Oneida, Ill., Mrs. Claus Malcolm of Galesburg, Ill., Mr. & Mrs. William Zimmerman and daughter of Ogden, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Van Blair.
