MRS. EMMA HORNBECK

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Frances Hornbeck were held Thursday, July 23, 1953, at 1:30 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home with the Rev. B. C. Westergaard in charge.

LaVern Alsin sang, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” and “Beyond the Sunset” with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Ernest Alsin.

Pallbearers were Boone Nygren, Dean Wilson, Murray Carpenter, Leonard Bollenbaugh, Laddie Carpenter, and Ralph Lindahl.

The flower committee was composed of Mrs. Morgan Sterner, Mrs. Ralph Lindahl and Miss Rose Anne Sterner.

Mrs. Emma Frances Hornbeck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Sultzer, was born May 27, 1870, at Kewanee, Illinois, and passed from this life July 21, 1953, at her home in Moingona, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 24 days.

She attended school at Kewanee, Ill., and early in life moved to Iowa, where she has spent the remaining days of her life, and since 1922 has been a resident of Boone county.

She was united in marriage to James McCaughan in 1886 and to this union was born two children, one daughter, Helen, and one son, Chris. Mr. McCaughan passed from this life in 1932.

She was united in marriage to William Hornbeck in 1920, who died December 26, 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wm. Hornbeck, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Sultzer, and three brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Helen Pollard, of Boone, Iowa, her son, Chris McCaughan of Davenport, Iowa, one sister, Mrs. Hattie Shepherd (*see note below) of Des Moines, Iowa; three brothers, W. P. Sultzer and C. C. Sultzer of Hastings, Nebraska, and Fred Sultzer of Los Angeles, Calif., along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
