Hurley DeWey Krumm (1931-1968)

Hurley DeWey Krumm, the son of Herbert and Marie (Mindeman) Krumm, was born June 7, 1931 at Boone, Iowa, and he entered into the kingdom of God by the sacrament of holy baptism June 30, 1931. He attended St. Paul Lutheran School and he renewed his baptismal vow on the day of his confirmation, March 25, 1945 through the ministrations of Pastor Zagel.

He graduated from Stanhope High School and entered military service after assisting his father in farming. While he was in military service, he was united with Doris Engstrom in holy matrimony in Emmaus Lutheran Church in Denver, Colo., June 7, 1953. This union was blessed with three children, Jennifer, Dennis and Karol.

A veteran of the Korean War, he returned to his home and farmed in Hamilton and Boone counties until his death at his home on June 4, 1968 at the age of 36 years, 11 months and 28 days.

He is survived by his wife Doris, his children, Jennifer, Dennis and Karol; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Krumm, one sister, Mrs. Duward (Joye) Engstrom and a large number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 6, with the Pastor Alfred R. Allmann in charge. Committal services were held in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery with pallbearers, Donald Tietjen, Donald Meyer, Gordon Hove, Gordon Quam, Melvin Peter and Kenneth Michel.

After Hurley's death, nearly 100 neighbors and friends went to the Krumm farms on a seven-mile radius in Boone and Hamilton Counties Wednesday afternoon, June 12, and cultivated 568 acres of corn and beans and bailed 21 acres of hay.
